10 Things I Will Teach my Daughter

This is a little off topic from what I normally talk about but I recently read an article and it touched home for me. What was even more unsettling than the actual story were the majority of the comments on the post. It lead me to realize that nothing much is going to change until we teach our youth otherwise.

The story was about one particular school’s regulations for Prom dresses. The school’s administration decided that all female students were to bring a picture of their chosen prom dress for approval prior to the dance. The regulations were tight on this. Even a dress that looked sheer but actually wasn’t, was unacceptable. No cleavage of any kind was allowed and the dresses had to be long.

The comments of this post included many saying: “if you don’t like it, don’t go to Prom,” “good, glad they are taking measures to teach these girls what’s appropriate, it’s a school dance, not a whorefest.”

This isn’t something new, we continue to teach our young ladies that our natural bodies are taboo. That what happens to us on a monthly basis is taboo and undesirable. That if we dress a certain way, we are welcoming male attention. Well I just do not agree with that.

♥ 1. You’re body is not an object – Let no man or woman tell you otherwise. Your body is beautiful and it belongs to you, no one else. It is not a sexual object.

♥ 2. You’re not a whore – Whore is a word that people throw around way too much. You’re a whore if you have had too many partners, you’re a whore if you love your body, you’re a whore to someone who doesn’t like you, you’re a whore if you dress provocatively. Well, I’m here to tell you, you aren’t. None of those things make you a whore.

♥ 3. Never place value on yourself based on your appearance – This is something that takes many women years to understand. Much like men are not judged on their natural looks in the world, neither should you.

♥ 4. Never compare yourself to other women – This one is difficult to do sometimes. When you see a woman that you believe is beautiful, it’s ok to admire that about her, not compete with her.

♥ 5. Getting older is not the end – As women, sometimes we believe that as we get older, we become less attractive. This can sometimes lead us to believe that we are less valuable to our men. Aging is natural, things will not always be so perky (if you know what I mean 😉 ) This doesn’t mean that you are less beautiful in any way.

♥ 6. You’re not a bitch for voicing your opinion –  Sometimes people mistaken honesty with hostility. Just remember that your voice is just as important as anyone else’s.

♥ 7. Don’t play with double standards – If you want to be treated equally to everyone else, you need to play the part. You need to work hard, be diligent and never settle. Likewise, never let your man tell you that something isn’t acceptable for you, when it clearly is for them.

♥ 8. Don’t be so quick to judge – When you see a woman breastfeeding her child and you might think it’s gross, just remember that she is feeding her baby and it’s a pain to be stuck at home all the time. Likewise, she might be feeling uncomfortable about it as well, you don’t need to encourage this. When I was younger, I remember seeing a prostitute and thinking that she was disgusting, not because she wasn’t well kept, but because of what she does. Don’t judge another woman, you’ve never walked in those shoes.

♥ 9. Sometimes, it is your fault – When you’re arguing with someone and you are dead-set that you are not to blame, just remember, sometimes you are. It’s ok to admit that.

♥ 10. Nothing about you’re body is disgusting or shameful – Whenever women are on their periods, we feel a natural urge to keep this information incredibly private. We don’t want anyone to think we are “icky.” Well stop, the earth is populated because of a woman’s fertility.

Once you have children, your body will change. It’s inevitable, your skin will sag around your stomach, things will stretch and leave you with nice “tiger stripes.” This isn’t shameful, it’s life. Life is beautiful.

Money Saving Tips of the Week for Thrifty Mom’s

Hey ladies!

Firstly, I am so sorry that I haven’t posted in a while. Between potty training, working and my new statistics class, I’m being stretched really thin. I will try to get caught up on my posts within the next few days! 🙂

Also, thank you for all that follow me! I recently got 60 likes and I am pretty excited about that!

So, without further adieu…here are this weeks money savings tips

♥ 1. Download the Cartwheel App immediately

If you are a Target shopper but don’t have time for the whole coupon clipping stuff or the hassle of a rebate program, this will become your new best friend! It is a Target app that will allow you to bundle their digital coupons right from your cell. You just hand your phone to the cashier with the bar-code up and poof; all savings are deducted.

♥ 2. Save your samples

When you leave the dentist’s office with your grown woman “goodie bag” of toothpaste and such, what do you do with it? I hope you keep it! Designate a drawer in your house for all things sample and trust me, you will use these babies if you’re organized with them.

♥ 3. Cut the cable in rooms that aren’t often occupied

Do you have a den in your house with a TV in it that has been used a whopping 3 times? Cut that TV, get yourself a Chromecast, AppleTV or a Roku and use that Netflix you pay for every month!

You can even take this a step further and cut Cable out of your house all together! I have been living without Cable or Satellite for the last year and a half. I have a variety of devices throughout my house; Chromecast, digital TV antenna, a couple Roku’s and also an amazing App that you can download called Sling TV. It’s the first Live, legal television that streams online. For $20 a month, you get stations like ESPN, ESPN2, Food Network, Disney Channel, the History Channel and more!

Right now, they are offering promotions for a Free Roku Streaming Stick, 1/2 off Roku3 and Free Fire TV Stick! The quality is awesome if you have fast internet.

♥ 4. Subscribe to promotional emails for your favorite places and companies

So maybe this one isn’t everyone’s favorite because those emails can end up taking over your Inbox but if you make yourself another email account strictly for promotional emails, you won’t be sorry. Let me just show you some of the email’s I got this week…

♥ 5. Got gift cards?

If you have old gift card’s that are still valid and you’re not really looking to use them any time soon…sell them! I have done this numerous times and my favorite site is Cardpool. You just go into their site, enter your card’s information along with the balance and mail it off. They send you the money really quickly as well.

♥ 6. Buy gift cards

So this might seem redundant but buying previously owned gift cards from a reputable company is pretty awesome. Purchase where you frequently shop and you can get instant savings. Currently on GiftCardRescue.com, you can get a Vons gift card for 10% off.

♥ 7. Thinking there is nothing left in your fridge to make dinner?

You could be wrong. Check out SuperCook, you simply include the ingredients that you already have and it will find you a recipe to match! Don’t run out to the store just yet.

Ok, so just 7 tips for this week. I can’t give you all my secret’s at once!

5 Reasons You Need Tea Tree Oil in Your House

It seems like, for every kind of essential oil, it has a fad moment in the beauty world. This is one oil that you should keep on hand in your home and not just for beauty purposes. Tea Tree oil is a natural antiseptic and has so many benefits other than your typical essential oil. Plus is smells amazing.

1. Treatment of mild-moderate acne

Mix a few drops with some aloe vera or just plan water and use on the infected areas of your face. Careful not to put this directly on open wounds, it will burn a bit. If you do, it isn’t bad for you though, it’s just uncomfortable. If you have body acne though, this stuff is amazing.

2.  Treatment of athlete’s foot

You will need a solution of 25% – 50%. The effectiveness of athlete’s foot is still debatable in the medical world. However, it is acknowledged that most people who used this solution, had a decrease of infection in 4 weeks or less. I know lot’s of people who swear by it (athlete’s mostly).

3. Treatment of lice

If you’re a mamma, you might need this on hand one day. If you mix Tea Tree oil, Lavender and water, it has been proven to repel lice, kill them and also kill their eggs.

4. Treatment of yeast infections

No one likes to talk about it, but it happens. You’ll need a tampon, the Tea Tree Oil and some lubricant. The lubricant keeps the oil from being soaked up by the tampon. Just use a few drops of the oil though. This is commonly used in other countries that are more centered on natural medicine.

5. Treatment of an ear infection

You’ll need 2 tablespoons olive oil, a few drops of Tea Tree oil and 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar. Mix ingredients, lay on your side with the infected ear up, fill up your ear and let it sit for 5 minutes then drain into a towel.

There you have it, keep this stuff on hand. I always do. You can buy it from Trader Joe’s for around $7

** If you have very sensitive skin, you should talk to your doctor before using Tea Tree oil. It should not be used instead of seeking proper medical attention for a severe infection.

Boots, Elf and NYX Makeup Review

♥ Elf: Tone Adjusting Face Primer – $3

Review: It’s difficult to tell from the picture but this primer has a green undertone. Firstly, I am well acquainted with products intended to neutralize red undertone. I have acne prone skin and also oily/combination skin. Primer is absolutely necessary for skin like mine. I was really hoping that this product would work decently well so that I can stop using my more expensive primer.

So here is my official review:

– This primer did little to neutralize the natural redness in my skin.

– The texture was very soft and didn’t leave my skin feeling oily at all.

– It did hold up my makeup for most of the day but didn’t hold back the oily complexion at all.

– This product is awesome for the price though. It was only $3 and I will get use out of it.

– Allowed my makeup to go on smoothly and helped the fine lines under my eyes look less apparent.

– This product is probably really good for a regular daily primer if your skin is dry or normal.

♦ Would I buy it again? Probably, if I was really strapped for cash and I ran out of my expensive primer. (Which is bound to happen)

♥ NYX Conceal.Correct.Contour – $11 – $14

Review: Firstly, it’s important to remember that I do not regularly have time to contour my makeup. 99% of the time, it’s not gonna happen. But; occasionally, when I’m out for a nice dinner or at a nice bar, I like to look like I put some manor of effort into my appearance. I typically love NYX products and own a bunch of them.  Because It’s rare that any of those events occur, I am not going to blow $40 on an expensive Contour set.

Here is my official review:

– It is a very, very thick product. Now, I know that any form of concealer is normally thick but this is like wallpaper paste. I thought about getting out my lacquer thinner to get it off.

– This also means that if you have any wrinkles, it is going to expose them! I used a really good primer and my normal routine which involves eye cream before using this product.

– The good news? It covers everything, other than wrinkles. Your face literally looks perfect and of course your cheekbones look amazing.

– The product is pretty good for the price and if you can just avoid your “wrinkled” areas, you’ll probably do just fine. Use your regular concealer for under eyes.

♦ Would I buy it again? Probably not, the price is really good but I don’t really like products that thick.

♥ Nº7 Beautifully Matte Makeup Up Base $9 – $13

I love Boots products. I used them when I was in Europe and I’m so glad they’re here in America now. One of those nice “beauty consultants” in Target convinced me to purchase this item. She let me try a little on my hand and I loved how smooth it felt and how nice my hand looked.

Here is my official review:

– The texture is amazing, much like a fluffy, soft pillow on your face.

– A little goes a long way. I literally use a tiny dab for my whole face.

– It keeps the shine away. It’s was designed to provide matte coverage and it delivers.

– It keeps my makeup on all day long

– It is actually supposed to regulate oil production, I’m not 100% sure it does though. It’s hard to tell.

– Do not use it under your eyes, it does not disguise fine lines, at all.

♦Would I buy it again? Yes, I have had it for over a month and It looks like I haven’t even touched it. The product is great and it lasts!

This photo is a picture I took when I used the NYX Contour makeup. As you can see, it very much looks like I globbed cake frosting on my face and attempted to blend. The product is too thick…yuck.

I hope you like this review. Feel free to comment about any of the products or my review of them.

10 Funny Toddler Moments

I think most parent’s could write a book titled, “Toddler Logic,” and it would be a best seller every time. I have no doubt that many of you have some moments that you are dying to tell the world about. If you do, please comment them and I will make another “Toddler Moments” post.

Here are just a few moments that we can all relate to, directly from the mouth of my own daughter and friend’s children:

1. When they repeat your parenting rebuttals

Parent: “Why not?”

Child: “Because I said so, that how that work.”

2. Their eccentric view of the world

Child, speaking to cashier: “You have a funny face”

Child, paints picture of a man and then states: “This is my man, he poops a lot.”

3. Their wise and profound, yet confusing statements

Child: “That’s enough kisses mommy!”

Parent: “When can I give you more kisses?”

Child: “When the wind blows”

4. Their lack of empathy for other’s feelings

Child: “I need my own house. I love you when you’re at your house, but not at my house.”

5. Their unwavering self esteem

Child: “Mommy, you look pretty but I more pretty…see!”

Child: “I am so beautiful, I look like a beautiful flower” (whilst admiring herself in the mirror)

6. Their excellent work ethic

When asked to demonstrate what “working” looks like; child picks up cell phone, curls up on the couch and flips through News Feed.

7. Their complete honesty

Child: “This is my song, you can’t sing like Princess Sophia”

8. Their lack of Modesty

Parent: “Child, get your wiener off the window!”

9. Their excellent negotiation skills

Child: “It’s my birthday, I need this cookie.”

Parent: “It’s not your birthday, you birthday was in August.”

Child: “Ok…I’ll eat one green bean.”

10: Their excellent care

Whilst using a plastic “pretend” stethoscope…

Child: “Mommy, your heart is dead.”

Share this if you got a laugh out of it and be sure to comment with any other funny moments!

Makeup Haul!

I have been waiting patiently for this to come in the mail. I’ve been stalking the mail man since I found out that it’s been shipped. As I’ve said before, I don’t splurge unless I love the products. I love Younique products and they just came out with a few new products I had to try! I made the money conscious decision of purchasing a Collection because I calculated my savings.

Let’s get right into it!

SAMSUNG CSCThis little box brought me so much joy 😉

So what was inside? Only all these amazing products!

SAMSUNG CSCIn this set you get:

  1. Moodstruck 3D Fiberlash Mascara
  2. Lip Pencil (I got Primal shade)
  3. Eye Pencil (I got Proper shade)
  4. One fantastic sharpener
  5. 2 Mineral pigment eye shaddow’s (I got Awestruck & Provoked)
  6. Mineral Touch Pressed Powder (Taffeta shade)
  7. Stiff Upper Lip Stain (I got Sultry shade)
  8. Beachfront Bronzer (Sunset shade)
  9. Amazing Younique makeup bag that has built in pockets for your brushes

First, I pretty much started with a blank canvas. Just concealer and primer.

Next, I only used the Mineral Touch Pressed Powder and the Bronzer. I was really happy with the texture and coverage of the powder. It was very soft! The bronzer had a little shimmer but not too much.

Next, I started playing with the mineral pigments. I kind-of expected an explosion of powder when I opened them but the powder was not as loose as some of the cheaper brands I’ve tried.

Next, I applied some eye liner and regular mascara…

Then, I did something awesome…I used my 3D Mascara! I also applied a neutral lip. I’ve been using this 3D Mascara for a while and it’s my favorite. All my girlfriend’s use it and all my colleagues at work. Everyone is hooked on it! It literally makes your lashes look so much longer and it’s water resistant!

Finally, I wanted to check out the Lip Stain but it would be too much together with my eye makeup so I wiped that off. Be warned though, this is a lip stain; it will stay exactly wherever you put it! I also used my Lip Pencil. Younique lip pencils are great. If you get a neutral color, you can use it all over your lips and NEVER re-apply during the day.

One of my favorite part about shopping at Younique is their Monthly Kudos. This month, when you spend $75, you get $10 Y-Cash! That’s pretty awesome.

If you like this set, it is called Show Stopper and the link to order is below.
