Pin-up Hair, Makeup and Clothing…on a budget!

Hello lovely ladies!

If any of you have ever dabbled in the “pin-up” craze; but don’t have the funds to furnish that wardrobe, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Rockabilly/pin-up clothing can be expensive, but luckily for you, I have found ways to successfully create the look without the expense. All items I’ve posted are under $40. I have also added a video that will show an easy pin-up makeup & hair combo that anyone can do!

Firstly…your staple “pin-up” items

1. High-waisted jeans

You can purchase high-waisted jeans in a lot of stores. What you’re looking for is; flat color(no shimmer, sparkle or fading), no tears or embellishments (unless we’re talking buttons),tight fitted, ankle length or pedal pushers. You can even roll up these jeans at the bottom and it looks awesome!

high waisted

2. High-waisted shorts

The key to these shorts are that they should be: short but still “lady-like.” Meaning, short but not so short that you have to continually pull them down to cover your tushy. Feel free to go with patterns and bright colors. Just again, no tears or fading. Also, shorts don’t have to be tight 🙂

polka dot shorts

3. Feminine blouse

I tend to wear…tight fitting with loose fitting. So if I’m going to wear a loose blouse, I will wear it with tight pants and vice versa.

4. Cardigans

The trick with cardigans is that…again, they be tight and short. Bold colors and prints are perfect!

5. The pencil skirt

These should be tight and high waisted. They should always hit at or below the knee.

6. Something leopard

7. A beautiful vintage dress

8. Some classic pumps

There you have it. Check out the video below to see me put the pin-up hair and makeup into action. I had to cut a lot of it, turns out I talk a lot.

3D Mascara Tutorial

So this is my 3D Fiberlash Mascara tutorial. I was asked how to use it, and here it is!

You’re going to have to mind my facial expressions while putting the mascara on. I don’t think there is a pretty way to do it!

I hope that answer’s your questions. If you want to order the product shown, you can go directly to:

Boots, Elf and NYX Makeup Review

♥ Elf: Tone Adjusting Face Primer – $3

Review: It’s difficult to tell from the picture but this primer has a green undertone. Firstly, I am well acquainted with products intended to neutralize red undertone. I have acne prone skin and also oily/combination skin. Primer is absolutely necessary for skin like mine. I was really hoping that this product would work decently well so that I can stop using my more expensive primer.

So here is my official review:

– This primer did little to neutralize the natural redness in my skin.

– The texture was very soft and didn’t leave my skin feeling oily at all.

– It did hold up my makeup for most of the day but didn’t hold back the oily complexion at all.

– This product is awesome for the price though. It was only $3 and I will get use out of it.

– Allowed my makeup to go on smoothly and helped the fine lines under my eyes look less apparent.

– This product is probably really good for a regular daily primer if your skin is dry or normal.

♦ Would I buy it again? Probably, if I was really strapped for cash and I ran out of my expensive primer. (Which is bound to happen)

♥ NYX Conceal.Correct.Contour – $11 – $14

Review: Firstly, it’s important to remember that I do not regularly have time to contour my makeup. 99% of the time, it’s not gonna happen. But; occasionally, when I’m out for a nice dinner or at a nice bar, I like to look like I put some manor of effort into my appearance. I typically love NYX products and own a bunch of them.  Because It’s rare that any of those events occur, I am not going to blow $40 on an expensive Contour set.

Here is my official review:

– It is a very, very thick product. Now, I know that any form of concealer is normally thick but this is like wallpaper paste. I thought about getting out my lacquer thinner to get it off.

– This also means that if you have any wrinkles, it is going to expose them! I used a really good primer and my normal routine which involves eye cream before using this product.

– The good news? It covers everything, other than wrinkles. Your face literally looks perfect and of course your cheekbones look amazing.

– The product is pretty good for the price and if you can just avoid your “wrinkled” areas, you’ll probably do just fine. Use your regular concealer for under eyes.

♦ Would I buy it again? Probably not, the price is really good but I don’t really like products that thick.

♥ Nº7 Beautifully Matte Makeup Up Base $9 – $13

I love Boots products. I used them when I was in Europe and I’m so glad they’re here in America now. One of those nice “beauty consultants” in Target convinced me to purchase this item. She let me try a little on my hand and I loved how smooth it felt and how nice my hand looked.

Here is my official review:

– The texture is amazing, much like a fluffy, soft pillow on your face.

– A little goes a long way. I literally use a tiny dab for my whole face.

– It keeps the shine away. It’s was designed to provide matte coverage and it delivers.

– It keeps my makeup on all day long

– It is actually supposed to regulate oil production, I’m not 100% sure it does though. It’s hard to tell.

– Do not use it under your eyes, it does not disguise fine lines, at all.

♦Would I buy it again? Yes, I have had it for over a month and It looks like I haven’t even touched it. The product is great and it lasts!

This photo is a picture I took when I used the NYX Contour makeup. As you can see, it very much looks like I globbed cake frosting on my face and attempted to blend. The product is too thick…yuck.

I hope you like this review. Feel free to comment about any of the products or my review of them.

Makeup Haul!

I have been waiting patiently for this to come in the mail. I’ve been stalking the mail man since I found out that it’s been shipped. As I’ve said before, I don’t splurge unless I love the products. I love Younique products and they just came out with a few new products I had to try! I made the money conscious decision of purchasing a Collection because I calculated my savings.

Let’s get right into it!

SAMSUNG CSCThis little box brought me so much joy 😉

So what was inside? Only all these amazing products!

SAMSUNG CSCIn this set you get:

  1. Moodstruck 3D Fiberlash Mascara
  2. Lip Pencil (I got Primal shade)
  3. Eye Pencil (I got Proper shade)
  4. One fantastic sharpener
  5. 2 Mineral pigment eye shaddow’s (I got Awestruck & Provoked)
  6. Mineral Touch Pressed Powder (Taffeta shade)
  7. Stiff Upper Lip Stain (I got Sultry shade)
  8. Beachfront Bronzer (Sunset shade)
  9. Amazing Younique makeup bag that has built in pockets for your brushes

First, I pretty much started with a blank canvas. Just concealer and primer.

Next, I only used the Mineral Touch Pressed Powder and the Bronzer. I was really happy with the texture and coverage of the powder. It was very soft! The bronzer had a little shimmer but not too much.

Next, I started playing with the mineral pigments. I kind-of expected an explosion of powder when I opened them but the powder was not as loose as some of the cheaper brands I’ve tried.

Next, I applied some eye liner and regular mascara…

Then, I did something awesome…I used my 3D Mascara! I also applied a neutral lip. I’ve been using this 3D Mascara for a while and it’s my favorite. All my girlfriend’s use it and all my colleagues at work. Everyone is hooked on it! It literally makes your lashes look so much longer and it’s water resistant!

Finally, I wanted to check out the Lip Stain but it would be too much together with my eye makeup so I wiped that off. Be warned though, this is a lip stain; it will stay exactly wherever you put it! I also used my Lip Pencil. Younique lip pencils are great. If you get a neutral color, you can use it all over your lips and NEVER re-apply during the day.

One of my favorite part about shopping at Younique is their Monthly Kudos. This month, when you spend $75, you get $10 Y-Cash! That’s pretty awesome.

If you like this set, it is called Show Stopper and the link to order is below.

Think before you splurge…

So, If you’re like me, you power walk past Sephora in an attempt to avoid some outrageously expensive product from catching your eye. Now, many of these products are absolutely fabulous, but there are some things you need to consider before splurging.

1. How long is this product going to last you?

Look at the fluid ounces and check the instructions. So many times I have bought a new product that looked like a decent sized bottle only to see that the fluid ounces weren’t any more than my old product. If the instructions indicate to apply generously, then you can also assume the product will get used up quickly.

2. What do the reviews say about it?

With our access to internet directly from our purses, there is no excuse anymore not to do your homework when purchasing a pricey product. Take a quick look at Amazon or look up good blogs about it. In some cases, you can scan the product. Just because your friend adores a product, doesn’t mean that you will. Everyone’s skin is different but if 100 consumers have rated a product well, you might just love it.

3. Check your prices

This goes along with checking reviews online, it’s easy to price check products online. Be careful with distributors that you haven’t heard of before. There are a lot of “knock off’s” of high end makeup and products.  Some are even sold on the internet at a discount because they have expired. Because the US doesn’t require that manufacturers of beauty products label an expiration date, you could essentially be purchasing a product that is a year old. Scary!

4. Check your Inbox

Before you go out to the mall or rush onto a website to purchase an amazing product, check your inbox. If you are on company’s emailing list, you might find a special promotion or discount. So many times, I have purchased a beauty product only to find a 10% off coupon in my inbox. Don’t do this! Those emails get annoying but they can save you money if you pay attention.

5. Ask if the store you are purchasing from, offers any samples or promotions

If you’re going to drop $50-$80 on a face lotion, see if they offer any samples of it first. You might hate it or you might love it, but at least you will know right off the bat. Sometimes store’s offer rewards for your purchases, ask what they are. While you’re at it, ask the associate if they expect your product to go on sale soon!

6. Ask about the return policy

If the store you are purchasing from has a no return or exchange policy, run! I’m always a bit skeptical about companies that say they have a return policy but only if the product is unopened. How can you find out if you like it?!

7. Make sure you will actually use the product

If you’re purchasing it and saying to yourself, “Oh yes, I’ll use this in Vegas when I go next.” That might not be for a while, and it might have expired by then. Wait until you actually need the product, you might have found a better one by then anyways. If you open up your cabinets in your bathroom and you see a ton of products that you’ve hardly ever touched (like most of us) you really need to be smart when it comes to your purchase.

And there you have it, I try to keep my splurges to every 3-4 months out of the year. This way, I know I’ll appreciate my new purchase. I’m not going to lie, sometimes I just look at the bottles for a little while, admiring them.

Enjoy and happy shopping!
